Getting an odor out of the microwave

I burned popcorn in mine this weekend and the stink is ferocious. It's as if I stuck all of our used ashtrays in there. Any ideas on how to get it out?

try cleaning the entire inside with vinegar? that is the only thing i can think of right now.

Yeah. vinegar is pretty good, and baking soda can also help get rid of odors. Just make a paste with a little baking soda and some hot water. that also works on dishes and hands.

No no no don't do baking soda on the interior of a microwave!
The protective covering of the inside of the microwave is surprisingly vulnerable to abrasives.
I've not heard of using vinegar but that's probably fine, rather a light abrasive.
Also put a teacup of water inside there, run it for 4 minutes or so - don't care if it boils over a bit, then swab the whole thing out real good.
Then leave the door open.
But don't expose the lining of the microwave to industrious scrubbing with baking soda.

Maybe something's changed with newer microwaves, but at least that's what I knew.

Jeffrey Dahmer would've known the solution.

O god!....lol...

Leo, thanks for the tip about baking soda. It's a good deodorizer, but didn't know it wasn't well-suited for the microwave. Vinegar is probably the best cleaner, then.

google is your friend. here are some other solutions
put lemon juice and water in a bowl and cook for at least 5 minutes, then wipe out entire microwave. any citrus juice will work.
just the plain water is the most widely suggested method.
never use any household cleaners in the inside of microwave because they could cause fire if not completely removed. i didn't even know this one.
